Trendspotting; Bow-Back

There is a thing about trends- If is it trend before you put an eye on, becomes surround system, if it isn't you become a craftsman.
I remember the time when I was obsessed with the bows on the back. In that period I probably collected the most of satin ribbons I have (now they are multitask shoe straps)
Lately, bow-back has been introduced on Yves Saint Laurent Spring 09 zipped dress and it had three bows on the back. This year Topshop did the two bows on the back version and I already seized myself one nude, Lycra tee/dress. Motel last year had one bow on their always charming vintage look-alike prints. For spring '10 Motel made three bows on the back and entitled it Bowtastic. Isn't that just fantastic name for spring key item?
Welcome aboard festival-chic!

covet shop

Covet is one more shop bookmark for dilettantes of current or vintage designer goodies at reasonable prices, as those with constantly opened eyes for vintage Alaïa or Chanel catches.
Intention of the founders, charming NYC couple was not only to create profitable online shop but beneficial to economy, so they offer consignment portal through which you can sell your old designer goodies you don't wear anymore. The money stays in industry and that is a philosophy we support, isn't it? While Nancy has background in fashion design and has worked for small boutique designers such as LAMB to those corporate like J. Crew, her partner Gregg is web and graphic designer. She revealed misslikey her vintage craves, inspirations and how her boyfriend and partner have become Alaïa expert.

Where from idea for covet shop?
I love to vintage shop and thrive off finding amazing one-off pieces at a great price! My partner and I saw an opportunity to create an online consignment boutique so sellers can get back some of their original investments and buyers can find gems at far below retail price. Being online allows us to reach sellers and buyers all over, not just in the local market.
Your favorite designers?
One of my all time favorite designer is Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. Actually favorite would be an understatement. I think it’s more of an obsession. I also like Nicolas Ghesquière for Balenciaga and Frida Giannini for Gucci.
What would be your inspirations in daily wear?
I take inspiration from anything creative such as fashion, movies, art and food. I am also very inspired by the style I see on the streets of different cities and countries.
Vintage lover or not? What are your craves?
Definitely vintage lover! The craves?
Designer vintage of course! Anything from vintage YSL to Chanel from all eras!
How did your partner/boyfriend with his graphic background fit in all this...did he became an expert on Alaïa or he is just in charge of the look?
Gregg is a very talented web and graphic designer. We both share a passion for style and aesthetics. Before we started this business, he was always very fond of my designer shoes. Now after eating and breathing this, he is not only an expert on Alaïa but he can tell you who’s wearing Alaïa on the streets of NYC. It scares me sometimes on how much he knows and can appreciate the finer things in life for a woman.

Now these goodies are just catches, don't you agree?

Week of Haute Couture

Yesterday, in Paris started spring Haute Couture season. This presentation of made-to-measure pieces was opened with show of couturier Josephus Thimister, guest member of Chambre syndicale de la haute couture who's absent from fashion scene for years (in 90s was artistic director at Balenciaga). Anti-war collection entitled "Bloodshed and Opulence", designer response and empathy with yet unhealed spirit of European people, broken with separation of Europe caused by World Wars, during and after era of communism, proved once again that "fashion is all about responsibility" is not just a theory.

This case, which is obvious critique on political leadership and ideologies is good example of emergency of criticism (not that are most ethical things happening in policy of fashion corporations these days). What really happens is that we, whether industry consumers or protagonists usually neglect ethical or moral behavior of those who are selling us clothes. So, it is an extraordinary thing, when ideas of garb creators that usually in capitalistic way spread around the world through copy-cat retailers, are our reminder, alarm. We certainly need more of awareness and wisdom in future expressions without fear of misunderstand. That's the reason I am sending first "superb" to Thimister. In his vision, though cigarette white pants are sprayed with fake blood , the cut of red satin blazer shows unmistakable tailoring abilities. White-red-olive composition is assembled by floor-length skirts, pants, cocktail dresses, capes, military jumpsuits, while military(rescue) blankets are used as layer over silver and gold ball gowns.

In the next three days of couture due to a names involved we hope to see sea of flamboyant, inspirational pieces and faits du art, .
Today, on the second day were presenting Alexis Mabille, Christopher Josse, Anne Valerie Hash, Christan Dior, Adeline André, Armani Privé shows
Tomorrow, on Tuesday 26 are showing Chanel, Stephane Rolland, Maurizio Galante, Atelier Gustavc Lins, Dominique Sirop, Givenchy
Wednesday, January 27 on schedule are On Aura Tout Vu, Franck Sorbier, Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier, Lefranc.Ferrant, Maison Rabih Kayrouz, Valentino shows.

Long hair...boring or not??

I have a long hair for some time now। Last major makeover happened three years ago when I was just dying for Michelle Pfeiffer's bob with bangs from Scarface (Kate Moss had the same inspiration). In growing process of my two haircuts on one head, as my cousin mocked, because of thickness of my hair style of my bangs did show affection toward emo. Then I promised myself- I will grow it. Once you start growing process you pay more attention on health of hair- probably there are subconscious thoughts of its connection with big-boom. I have little scrapbook from phase of teenager days when vegetarian and all natural obsessed, was collecting beauty home made recipes, so I know that you can mix an egg with 4 spoons of honey, 3 spoons of olive oil and wrap your head in plastic foliage. One hour later I forget how my threads are pretty smother and softer due to irritation caused by scratching of vertex. Not to mention mayonnaise salad on top of my head and smell of my home or better say fowl house (but still mayonnaise makes miracles on sun-damaged hair). If only I have more patience for natural hangs out but then I would had that same patience for transformations, well not in meaning of Rihanna but still enough to avoid feeling of boredom. And I swear when I exclusively signed the contract with myself that I am raising mane in rock manner with Patti Smith as an idol, thought of boredom was not involved. But that's just probably in our human nature. I learned how long hair needs a persistence cause every now and then is very seducing idea of taking scissors in a hand. For a girl that at three stood in front of garbage and made a boyish haircut from a long blonde braid, it doubles my chances immediately. Oh how is it hard when at one point you are allured with flapper wavy or pageboy haircut. Or when images of Gwyneth as Margot Tenenbaum or Debbie Harry whisper Cut it, Cut it. Sore of growing process more than Patti Smith stopped me every time- If I settled for a free-flowing hair I'll find solutions for less dullness. So, first I became colorist on my own to give a little life to my natural mouse-blond color. That DIY of hair turned out surprisingly very well- In three phase process I was making highlights in three times, every time coloring around six locks to avoid stripes effect and create natural sun highlighting appearance. Another thing I learned about long hair is that tolerates much more creativity in hairstyles. I've always been fan of casual chignons, pulled back, side-parted hair (role model Abbey Kershaw). Just a year ago I used to think that I left classical headbands in the past, at the age of 6, I surprised myself recently wearing a bow headband. Then French braid, which I am very fan for years now. Loose, side braid from Alexander Wang and Miu-Miu spring catwalks created by hairstylist Guido Palau absolutely encouraged me for having a long hair. And from the time I saw Hermes ad with Karlie Kloss I already knew of my beach image this summer. Since then I am working on twining a scarf into the braid.(last year Hermes had few charming loose braids on catwalk)
"Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you are 40 it will look 85", wrote Chicago Tribune's Mary Schmich in Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young, one of most touching articles ever.
I don't mess too much, but I'll need to make a change in future. But I'll leave it long for now. Maybe when I become serious I will cut it into sleek, simple and to the shoulder. But I am not ready. Yet.

Are you wearing braid?

Golden Globes 2010 fashion

Though rain was messing up batch of hairdos and dresses, seems that jewels were safe on Golden Globes Awards. Some would describe it as eccentric or rummy but this certainly was another promenade of Chopard, Fred Leighton, Lorraine Schwartz, Stephen Russell, Bulgari Van Cleef & Arpels diamonds. Seems that among celebrity stylists, obviously except eternal diamonds formula, is valid the one of Louboutin red soles and Leiber or Roger Vivier clutches. Valentino, as usually had a squad of ambassadors; Jennifer Aniston, lightly flirt with edgy which I found very pleasant, however she received bad critiques. Chloë Stevens Sevigny, girl that can be equally lovely in vintage tee or most divine couture dress was attraction like always in Valentino pale rose sleeveless train dress with vertical ruffles. Later she changed it for Christian Lacroix's embellished dress with black tulle overlay. Almost arrested by fashion police for the bulge on Atelier Versace dress, was Drew Barrymore. But I found miss Drew rather charming in her off the shoulder sequin- embroidered, lightening gown.
Seems that actresses were inspired by upcoming big trend, according to spring catwalks, ruffles on the top. (ruffles, pleats and combination were all over). Marchesa vision of ruffles on one shoulder wore Anna Kendrick. Simple, elegant and sophisticated were Ginnifer Goodwin in cobalt drapery dress made by Rodolpho Paglialunga for spring collection of renewed legendary Vionnet and January Jones, all black, in always impeccable Lanvin. .
Mary Kate Olsen must have been very exciting for debutante Row show on New York Fashion Week, so in reflect of her mood she came to party in silk cocktail mini blue from fall collection of Erdem (named by style.com as Lacroix of London).
At the end, this year red carpet swan's assistants picked lot of gowns from ready to wear collections while Haute Couture (or vintage) was rare. Exceptions were miss Pretty Woman that really surprised with shortness of Yves Saint Laurent vintage simple dress, paired with Van Cleef diamonds in shape of medallion and red nail polish. Couture princesses was one of the best dressed persons of the moment, Diane Kruger who went for a Lacroix pink gown with white detail.
Other gowns that caught my eyes were Grecian Alberta Ferretti dress on Jeanne Tripplehorn and Oscar De la Renta princess line on Lea Michele, future Dorothy Of Oz.
I was hoping of more futuristic to see on the star of the night, actress that is misslikey Cheri from beginning, Zoe Saldana. Instead of Louis Vuitton flamenco inspired ruffled gown maybe a piece from Jean Paul Gaultier Couture. Perheps something like futuristic chiffon dress with metal details or one of the floor- touching velvet gowns with Sunset Boulevard charm.

street, style and snap

There are no doubts of influence that street style has on fashion today. At first fresh faces and creative ways in individual styling…was very inspiration available to very indoor clique of fashion insiders. With photographers and amateurs that set on capturing interesting moments out and about, we started to see amusing street stories daily without being on right places in major fashion capitals. Mr. Scott Schuman, better known as The Sartorialist back in the 2005 quickly became instant bible of style-at home for many individuals around the globe interested in fashion. Same did Garance Doré, prominent master not only for street snapshots, but for fashion illustration. So can be reality as Alice Fisher, from the Observer stated that those two are the best things that happen to style since Grace Coddington. Besides Garance and Sartoiralist, reading lists swiftly joined those like Altamiranyc (by Craig Arend) or Face Hunter Yvan Rodic, and even some girls around didn’t know how to buy shoes anymore without pre-glance at Tommy Ton's diaries on Jak & Jil. Thanks to flamboyant Street Peeper that as they state peeps cities all over the world we are able to see view on trends and fashion in San Francisco, Seoul or Sydney. Remarkable Maya from my latest obsession Turned Out except people with astonishing style, captures petite stories behind and together with collages she creates magic out of street styles. On the track from March of the last year is Citizen Couture, One more view of talented photograph lenses by enthusiast named Jason that catches style moments of the names we are always happy to see around (as are Carine, Daphne,Giovanna Bataglia, Miroslava Duma or clique of the models off the duty and some of our darling bloggers). The source of inspiration for the internet crowd keen on people style snaps, if it is not yet, will quickly become your bookmark.
