pretty cover

As a member of wrap up-obsessed-generation, it doesn’t happen just once that I judge book by its cover. Translated, I will often, if not always, pick item because of the package. So I am the type that falls on marketing tricks of pretty flowers, French inspired cottage style and clean pastel design that just calls you to love it (won’t even mention Liberty prints). Isn’t silly the fact that I would rather buy hair balsam in pale pink bottle rather the one dressed up in red, even if it’s not for my hair type. Simplified loveliness of Chanel's black and white  manages to deserve my full attention every time. Or youthful spirit of intellectual edginess that Marc Jacobs’s products spread. The basic Nivea cream because of the classical blue design is something that is always in my cosmetic bag. Does it give me feeling of unconditional happiness and delicateness that I can carry around? Maybe. That’s why I picked few things that lately caught up my full attention. On the list are Penguin new editions with embroidered cover; those of Emma and Secret Garden. I adore Orla Kiely radios because they remind me of Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl. Fifi Lapin cases for iPhone make technology world sweet. Or Diana F+ lomography cameras. Talking about good old Diana, at home I have Smena 8m, that’s perfect pro lomo camera. But no, I want Diana, and I even cannot decide what version of design I want. Maybe Dreamer because it reminds me of gardening and sunsets. Maybe Collette spotty one that I associate with Godard’s girls. Qing Hua because I am crazy about blue flowers and blue floral prints? Or Lomography's new beauty La Sardina Mobius that just calls me to spend a day wearing boater hat on Riviera during the 1920s. But I cannot travel through time, or can I?!

so long, marianne

So long, Marianne is name of the new lookbook created by online boutique Summerland. Boutique sells amazing vintage pieces and as well clothing from labels such as Dear creatures, Tba, twenty-seven names and Alexandra Grecco. Except pretty frocks, Summerland also has great selection of Karen Walker eyewear. The lookbook, photographed by Anja Verdugo, in very relaxed way expresses both serenity and friskiness. I love how the innocence of the model with boyish wavy bobbed hair in pretty feminine frocks, charmingly fitted in the décor of the set.
When mentioning So long, Marianne I have to say it is one of my favorite songs. Leonard Cohen had managed to summarize deep emotions of farewell, lust and regret in a short form of song with melody that touches the soul. Song itself is about Marianne Ihlen, girl Leonard met on Greek island of Hydra and lived with during the 1960s. “The most beautiful woman that he ever met” was Cohen inspiration for many poems and songs, but Marianne is a piece of art. Just like this lookbook above that carries the same name.

sweet break

No matter how much I love lazy rainy days with the book and tea, it’s pretty unpleasant when Mrs. Rain surprises you on your getaway. Exactly that happened last week when my boyfriend and me went on the short visit to island Hvar. And although rain was most of the time, it didn’t manage to spoil our little trip, so the raindrops became romantic guide that revealed us all the loveliness of the island. And I cannot deny the magic of all the pretty smells in the air after the rain. I had my own eat-pray-love moment and enjoyed in pleasant company of all the people we met there. I fell in love with a little village on the hill and the house where friend’s grandma and her sister live (second photo in last row). These two are probably most charming ladies that I ever met, so pleasant and graceful, like they popped out from pages of some novel. And you cannot tell if the house is prettier from the inside or on the outside. Proudly standing tall walls and romantic white wooden windows in the company of antique furniture, curtains made of lace, typewriter and the light breeze that kisses pureness of the place. And on the outside you can’t do anything but be just bedazzled with the aromas that jasmines, oleanders, roses, candytufts and other flowers are spreading. My soul was cured with the cup of a tea and cookies ladies served me. Oh, my old-fashioned heart needed just that.

black bottoms

Life can be tricky sometimes. A year ago when I was inspecting stuff in local charity shop, I found a pair of black Levi’s jeans. Not too gray, not too bleached, just right to cut them into shorts. And I didn’t buy them. Since I found the shop closed next time I came back to pick them, that makes me a loser. The fact I still haven’t found these, makes me even bigger. So I seek and look, and inspecting dusty clothes at thrift stores, but nothing to find. I didn’t want to buy these online because I wanted to try them on first, but seems I’ll have to. So now I am waiting for my size to appear on good old Etsy. What can I say….I am a black bottoms biggest fan.
