I'll have a butterscotch sundae, I guess!!

We talked about Orla Kiely AW13 back in the March, after she left us breathless with quirky presentation where bunch of gorgeous models/ secretaries were walking around the office and typing on neat retro typewriters in style of the Mad Men. Collection inspired by gypsy royal princess from 1970s, Margot Tenenbaum and Irish artist Breon O’Casey, is one of our favorite collections coming from Orla Kiely’s factory of mod.

Misslikey is crushing this season on:  The fitted rosy pinafore in “Raised Flower’ design with silky floral appliques, Angora rosy top that is slightly cropped and fitted , Silk black organza blouse and thick but extremely soft faux fur coat. And do I have to mention all the knitwear pieces adorned with squirrels?
Oh, Orla why you are so lovable each season?

Nadinoo's plays

Over the years, we have been testifying arise of the enormous number of handmade labels that were born in sleepless nights from one creative mind and sewing machine with the intention of creating proper garments that are ready to wear. There are really many of those who we unpretentiously admire, and the one that is at the top of my "women in making proper garments" admiration list is Nadia Izruna, brain and seamstress behind label Nadinoo. Her proper dresses wrap body in pretty silhouette and every collar, cuff or any ending always appears to be perfectly tidy and neat. Nadinoo had taken the short break lately because Nadia became a mother to cutest little girl named Lula and family together with sewing equipment is based in Cape Town these days. There, from its place under the sun, Nadinoo comes back again with a new playful collection named Play by numbers, inspired by a wet and miserable English summer and school girls who care about life that is full of fun. The fun is surely guaranteed when you are wrapped in a comfy Liberty Tana Lawn that Nadia has been working with the last couple of years. And we come to the conclusion that from all those that are playing the Liberty game, she is the one that does it excellent.

August with Family Affairs

When you become aware that the summer is soon forgotten, I can tell you that you woke up in August . Isn’t the truth that when there is a little left of sunrays, you wish to catch them with palms of your hands. Therefore, don’t wait. Catch a beauty of charming A. with blossoms opened to peace and magic that August moons spread.
In the days of August we will drink lemonade with clean minds and warm hearts. Even if we don’t have our soul mates or beloved ones, we would wish that we could get lost to someplace near the sea where birds would wake us up. Then we would truly enjoy sunrises and sunsets that welcome and farewell these charming days.
In sweet Sextilis we would pick lavender and collect rose petals. In the satin boxes we would carefully put them for a scent that will bring delight to our autumns and winters.
In dear August we would make sorbets, drive in boats and wear a pretty pretty clothes. We would play, sing and look alluring with floral wreaths wrapped in our hairs.

Dear Creatures Spring 2013

Dear Creatures for last couple of years have been entertaining their fans with their reinterpretations of 1960s movie stars, ye-ye girls and groupies.
Boy and girl behind this indie label Bianca Benitez and Rob Sinclair, share common love for the past decades and are determined about bringing mod to present. Their lookbooks are always inspiring, frocks are always perfectly polished, collars and embellishments are always on the right place and there’s always bit of a sailor girl with free spirit in Dear Creatures’ girl.
Spring Summer 2013 Collection named Day Tripper with stripes, pussy bow collars and mod inspired prints creates stirring story that’s tempting us to escape somewhere unknown to explore new adventures. The LA-based label won the hearts of modern mod girls such as Zooey Deschanel and Annie Monroe.
We love Dear Creatures because they are all about cheerful, carefree and cute.

The Fairytale of LES'

In the world where the word innovation isn’t something that we hear every day and where the boring became synonym for most of the fashion made by our contemporaries, showed up a girl that is everything but boring.
Her name is Lesia Paramonova, and she is young Russian designer that loves world of the storybooks, flowers, and wild creatures that she incorporates in the world of her label LES' to create enchanting fairytales of fashion.
I came across her work few months ago by accident on tumblr where I was left breathless by her lookbooks and clothes that look like they are made for fairies. Her collection for upcoming fall season is certainly fairy-like and shows enormous talent for tailoring, patterns and great approach for using of the fabric.
The centerpiece of LES' Autumn Winter 2013 Collection is many times underrated, but very great for expression; the uniform. LES’s uniform is the uniform of Soviet school student reinterpreted in very modern and sophisticated way. From the start point of uniform, she creates overalls and pinafores adorned with the huge bows in prints that look like they are hand drawn with pencil. She has the great feeling for volume and the unusual detailing so yellowish jumper has the perfect volume, knee socks are embellished with tulle bows, and high-waisted shorts that from the back look like skirt are adorned with little pockets.
She sees winter in glitter, so the coat has a shimmery appearance and the satchel of her Russian schoolgirl is glittery pink. The prints she used for collection feature motifs from nature that together create such a beautiful surreal garden. And on the long dress that looks like it popped up from futuristic Victorian Artistic Dress Movement she added contrasting oversized bows on the shoulders while model wears one already on her head.
Too much bows? To be honest, never enough of them! Well done Lesia, we say in anticipation to see more of the fashion fairytales from the LES'. The world you imagined for us is real. We really are your fans!

Charles Anastase Pre-Fall 2013

open image in new tab to view image in higher resolution

When Charles Anastase stopped showing collections back in the 2011, he made a lot of his devoted fans sad. Charles Anastase is a man who not just understands fashion or shape of female body, but he also is a great connoisseur of history and heritage of fashion. Therefore, Charles is one of those visionaries who will be ahead of his time as a designer, even if he borrows from the past. There are not many designers today with quality of this kind.
Now that his Pre-Fall 2013 collection is here, pretentiously named Fashionably Late, we can state without sounding pretentious that season of 2012 was boring without Charles Anastase shows and lookbooks. Charles Anastase Pre-Fall 2013 came as a tidbit for grown-up girls with the souls of the schoolgirls. There’s no designer that does better garments with girly appeal in this way and this sophisticated manner. If Charles’s girl is a schoolgirl, she attends private institution and no matter she is a dreamer, she is very intelligent with refined and grown-up style.
With this aristocratic approach towards clothing, Charles doesn’t make mistakes neither in tailoring nor in design. With Charles, everything is always in the right place. For pre-fall, Charles is playing again with volumes and whether it’s a pinafore, jacket, skirt or a top, he creates a silhouette that stays in your head for quite a long time. He’s also flirting with peplum on the hem of the tops to create a soft and elegant silhouette sometimes consisting of A line skirt, sometimes of trousers.
Definitely, he’s not one of those designers that will put on the winter runaway swimsuit or dress made of summery fabric. That practical side of dressing up is another thing that makes a great designer. Plus ability to give the tender appeal to autumn or winter attire and keep everything sophisticated.
Charles really has it all.
