China Darling...Xinyuan Zhang

In the high competitive world of modeling, we get amazed by new faces we see every day but we will forget about these astonishing beauties soon as the new model pops in to win our heart. Of course there are those whose face we won’t forget so easily. Xinyuan Zhang is one of those girls.

Born in Hubei Province of China, she graduated from Central Academy of Drama in Beijing and became popular through social networks. Once being discovered, her face graced the cover of I-D Magazine and pages of many others. Not only she has a face of porcelain doll, but this young lady is very self-aware and through her modeling career has developed unique aesthetic vision and oriental wisdom saying no to vulgar photo shootings and editorials. And her personal style is all about collar dresses, exaggerated accessories, red lipstick and unique pieces of headwear. We love her even more once we found about that!

Beard, please!

To be honest with you dear misslikettes, misslikey always had a thing for boys with beards. That look of the gentleman that beard gives together with bit of edge that hair or skinny jeans create makes me to stop and look for a while. It is certainly possible that my attraction to boys with beards started with Iron and Wine or Fleet Foxes, and I know I can be bit of a music hypocrite sometimes for liking the bands with pretty people (read: made of boys with beards). So, yes we did had outstanding choice of bearded boys to listen over the years, but lately I am glad that beards had finally made their move from studios to modeling agencies. These days on the covers of magazines and in different editorials and lookbooks we can see beautiful examples of male specie wearing beards and tattoos. One of the boys we have honor of seeing a lot around is Ricki Hall, 26-year-old model that lives and works in London. Except of the promenade of his instagram fans worshiping his beard and numerous tattoos, Ricki won the heart of people from fashion industry. In fact his story of modeling is quite quirky as his appearance, since his 2-year-old career started when he visited London for a weekend and got scouted in front of Topman where he went to buy himself a t-shirt. What is special about Ricki beside of the tattoos and the beard is his perfect sense of style. He describes it as a fusion of 1950s New York workman with a nod towards 1930’s English gentleman and a sprinkle of the 1980s skinhead era. We couldn’t agree more and add that he embodies all these eras in perfect way. Good luck Mr. Hall, we are delightful to see you around.

Bookmarks for the Spring 2013 from New York Fashion Week

Orla Kiely Except at Orla is always happening a showcase of extremely pretty garments, once again she amused her loyal fans with another wonderful film from her factory of talent; director Maximilla Lukacs and Lula’s Leith Clark. Bardot-esque Hannah Holman as Darlin took Orla Kiely’s pretty designs to vague summer of 1960. (see film here)
Lauren Moffatt’s quirky dresses and swimsuits made in joyful stripes and polka dots, perfectly fitted in the environment; the tennis court. Inspiration behind; "a combination of the very classic look of lawn tennis in the '60s, and a colorful city pool." 
Rachel Antonoff had another great presentation. This time Rachel’s girls, dressed up in comfy frocks that only cool girls know how to wear, spent the day at picnic. Except clothes, she showed us once again why her collaboration with Bass shoes is just the right thing. 
Karen Walker, New Zealand queen of preppy, steps more than usual into the field of girly and it looked just right. So except Playpark in New Zealand, she created one in New York. (Playpark is the store that besides  Karen Walker clothing and eyewear, offers great range of clothes by Karen’s favorite designers) 
Tocca, under our beloved Emma Fletcher is surely going to right direction. Emma’s vision of hot air balloons and kaleidoscopes it’s not just marvelous, but very practical. Shoes were ideal, especially when they were in contrast with Emma's signature soft lace inserts. 

More moments to remember

Christian Siriano ballerina’s moment and pointed Mary Janes adorned with bow. Suno’s shiny dresses, everything from Honor and Steven Alan, Yeohlee’s metallic romance, Edie’s moment at Marc Jacobs (even Alexa Chung between her DJing gigs found the time to share the memory of Edie with designer) and Misha Nonoo’s Cuba-inspired unpretentious ensembles.

She has beautiful and warm blue eyes. Her skin is just like porcelain. Her curly brown hair with the bangs is rebellious but romantic. On the photos she looks like this fragile creature from some secret world. Playful but shy was my first impression of this girl that I spotted on the photos of TBA ‘s fall lookbook. She brought the innocent bourgeois bohemian vibe to handsome pieces from collection. Her name is Katy Dron, and even if we don’t know much about her I have feeling that this girl is going to have a brilliant career in fashion industry. She is signed with Metropolitan Models, Elite and Union Models, did an editorial for Lula Magazine Slanted and Enchanted and appeared in Grazia. She walked the runaways at the Holly Fulton, Roksanda Ilincic and Rachel Comey shows. Chanel, Miu Miu, Karen Walker, Charles Anastase, Erdem, Mulberry, Valentino wake up! This is the girl for you!

Model Crush; Aline Weber

Fans of Alexander Wang probably remember her wearing that infamous sheer dress at SS09 show, while I spotted her first at McCartney. She fits naturally in clothes made by Stella cause she has just right balance of femininity and rock and roll vibe. Brazilian beauty might not be super chameleon when it comes to transformations, but she obviously has what it takes to last in the modeling world for more than 5 years. After opening of Balenciaga show back in the 2008, everyone was talking about this girl and she became one of the regular faces in magazines. She recently did campaign for See by Chloe while earlier campaigns include clients like D&G, Missoni and H&M. This season she walked more than 20 shows but her most successful season still is autumn of 2008. For i-D magazine said she listens to Rolling Stones and Beatles and her favorite designer is Marc Jacobs. Apparently she is not just i-D mag chéri, but also of Carine Roifteld, so she appeared in seven editorials for Vogue Paris during last two years.
Also Miss Weber, is one of the rare models of generation that had a cameo role in movie. And we are not talking about an ordinary movie, directed by ordinary director, but by Tom Ford and his A Single Man. Aline as Lois with black-lined eyes and blonde hair a la Bardot, earned the applause if for nothing, than just for the way she smokes. Maybe this title should be supermodel instead of model crush. Don't you agree?

Model behavior; New York Fashion Week

With the beginning of fashion season in New York, our excitement to see how our favorite designers see the image of next summer is growing. With new trends, equally we are excited to see all the street style photos or maybe found us in street style section on our favorite fashion blog. Also if we didn’t see them in personal, we want to know around which models was buzz this season, so on the forums on fashion spot soon some member will count how many shows each model opened, closed or appeared in.
Fashion week is very stressful time of the year for a model. Running from show to show demands good flats, fittings comfortable clothes and cameras around demand that they are always looking like having fun. Not mentioning the after parties they have to attend. Maybe that casualness about style of models is probably a reason why backstage or street photos became our cultural ritual and exits after the show stalking places. And most of us would ignore the stress and the tension that these beautiful girls are going through and immediately trade places with them- just think of all beautiful clothes, parties and gift in clothes. And they get a paycheck. We would volunteer!

Zanita crush

Usually this would be a model crush but when it comes to Zanita Whittington is hard to talk about categories. 21-year-old fashionable darling from Australia is not just some ordinary magazine beauty but she could easily own a magazine; she is model, photographer, stylist, writer and the blogger. Tell me that you haven’t immediately fallen for Zanita the moment you came across her online world. If so you must have noticed it's not just about the pretty clothes or vintage treasures or her Blake Lively meets Claudia Schiffer in 90s glance, but the overall energy that radiates from Zanita.
Except the star of bloggosphere, she is very successful model- recently she appeared in editorial for British Vogue and she is American Apparel’s Classic Girl.
Not are only self-portraits of outfits that you would adore on Zanita’s blog but you could easily become obsessed with photo stories she posts frequently, all captured and styled by her. Amateur photographer, as she describes herself in about me section, knows better what to do behind the lens than many self-proclaimed fashion photographers nowadays.
And leggy beauty with Nikon camera in her hands doesn’t have the slightest problem with coordinating both of her passions. She said in interview for ÆTIENNE.NET she enjoys both equally; Modeling is my career, it's challenging and rewarding. Photography is my creative hobby; it's fun and relaxing.

Model Crush; Julia Nobis

I spotted Julia Nobis in the recent Resort 2011 look books. She fitted perfectly into idea of edgy at Alexander Wang same as into ladylike and preppy at Richard Nicoll and Peter Jensen. Natural blond hair and porcelain skin, you might think this is another Nordic beauty but the blonde doll is actually Sydney native. Nobis, discovered at the age of 15, to take modeling bit seriously waited to finish high school. Then happened the bang- walks Calvin Klein F/W show as an exclusive. The Cut called Aussie newcomer London’s Top Model and besides she walked numerous catwalks this season, she also was opener at Topshop Unique and closer at Richard Nicoll. Not to mention bookings on RAFW. She is signed with Priscillas and Elite and appeared in editorials for Russh, Amica, i-D Magazine and both Italian and British Vogue. Outstanding beauty, according to Vogue UK will be new face of New Zealand’s footwear label Beau Coops.
Most 17-year old girls would probably hyperventilate just of thought of own face in Vogue but Julia seems cool with that. “When I have money I treat myself to more and more extravagant chocolates and biscuits, but if worst comes to worst I always have my guitar top fall back on. Strange that chocolate can be substituted by music,” said Julia in interview for summer issue of i-D Magazine. And music she obviously adores; her style icon is Kurt Cobain and playing the guitar is her surviving tool for breaks between the shows. The tall beauty is very simple when it comes to fashion, so as personal style considers Jeans, baggy T-Shirts, leather jacket and Doc Martens.(Vogue Italia)

Model Crush; Joan Smalls

I spotted her first on Derek Lam fall 2010 runaway and immediately fell for her and the brown dress with black leather insert she was wearing-"Joan Smalls is the girl of the moment." The Puerto Rican beauty, with Queen's address has been modeling from 2007 but Givenchy Spring Couture show soars her among modeling stars. We never really doubted in Ricardo Tisci taste.
Miss Smalls this fall season walked the 44 runaways in Milan, London, New York and Paris including those most spotted as Alexander Wang, Prada, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Stella, Hermes are. That is very of success for established model, not to mention for newcomer so is surely that Joan Smalls will be pretty busy next fashion week season. In campaigns we saw her in those for Ports 1961, Dillard's, Liz Claiborne, Neiman Marcus, Ralph Lauren and according to industry predictions this is just a beginning for this charming fille of age 21.
This long legged, golden skin goddess in her suitcase always carries bikini, a pair of black high heels and a pair of comfortable jeans. Better to keep that suitcase of hers always ready cause this face would for surely travel the planet of fashion.

True Friendship?

When she came to saint soil of supermodels in 90s as a hardly unknown model, Naomi took young Katherine (16), child of the same town, London, under her wing.
Katie was different and way shorter from the gazelles and started a new heroin chic back in the days, but together they were supermodels. More then 10 years later, Naomi held her back in Cocaine Kate's affair when no one actually stood by her; Kate Moss is my friend ... I think it's like everybody is being bad to her"
Seems that the over the years rumors haven’t destroyed the friendship. Once there was the lesbian affair. Next was YSL replacement of Kate as campaign face by her friend, which Kate handled very professional and aware. Apparently that statement or fact that Kate Moss had many more covers of Vogue than Naomi couldn’t pull a fight between the girls. This year when Naomi didn’t arrive this at MET, some assumptions were that she didn’t show up because of Kate as co-hostess but Naomi boycott because designer Azzedine Alaia, another friend, wasn’t invited.
After years of common editorial work, or rocking together in Vivienne Westwood heels, girls still hang out and Naomi is always on Kate Topshop openings for support.
