London Fashion Week Spring 2013

open image in new tab to see full size
What happens in London, possible is just there, because there’s no order in this Big Bang explosion of creativity. Shows in London are like a huge patchwork made of thousand small pieces and they actually all look good together. This year in London, designers for spring of 2013 RTW presented us new game of trend; different colors or prints and different fabrics; all on one garment. And we enjoyed more than ever their visions of romantically science fiction with occasional travels to past. Also, PVC never looked this good. Here are misslikey’s favourite moments and collections.

Simone Rocha, ex Fashion East-er and daughter of John Rocha. If London was missing Peter Jensen (who was showcasing Spring 2013 at Copenhagen Fashion Week), it found a creatively cool and fashion forward substitute in Simone. Simone Rocha spring 2013 catwalk was consisted of everything hot right now; peplum, metallic, leather, lace, PVC-esque sheer, Codie Young, halo-like headdresses, beautiful shoes. And with front row to die for; Leith Clark, Alexa Chung and Laura Bailey.
Meadham Kirchhoff duo continues with exploring sweet ways of living of our favorite queen, Marie Antoinette. Sometimes messy-looking firework of color, every detail is carefully picked; from setting of the catwalk, the top bow on hat to nail embellishment (this time sparkly). This carrousel of colours and dresses that look like cupcakes, won’t be forgotten that soon, and garments will be base for lot of independently oriented editorials during next season.
Kinder Aggugini’s Sally goes fishing. If I need to make a favourite from the favourites, Kinder’s sweet summer of fisherman would be mine. Show was opened with sounds of Somewhere beyond the sea but the girl who went fishing experienced the different transforms of moods which found the great back up in music remixes (from Biggie’s Nasty to Coldplay). Kinder is familiar with the fact that pinafores, dungarees, skirts and shorts can be a great basic of the summer wardrobe; just these from KA weren’t basics but statement pieces with adorable prints of sea creatures. Girl that lives on sweet side of fashion, for promising summer now just needs to book a sweet cottage somewhere beside the river.

new york spring 2013 highlights

Bookmarks for the Spring 2013 from New York Fashion Week

Orla Kiely Except at Orla is always happening a showcase of extremely pretty garments, once again she amused her loyal fans with another wonderful film from her factory of talent; director Maximilla Lukacs and Lula’s Leith Clark. Bardot-esque Hannah Holman as Darlin took Orla Kiely’s pretty designs to vague summer of 1960. (see film here)
Lauren Moffatt’s quirky dresses and swimsuits made in joyful stripes and polka dots, perfectly fitted in the environment; the tennis court. Inspiration behind; "a combination of the very classic look of lawn tennis in the '60s, and a colorful city pool."
Rachel Antonoff had another great presentation. This time Rachel’s girls, dressed up in comfy frocks that only cool girls know how to wear, spent the day at picnic. Except clothes, she showed us once again why her collaboration with Bass shoes is just the right thing.
Karen Walker, New Zealand queen of preppy, steps more than usual into the field of girly and it looked just right. So except Playpark in New Zealand, she created one in New York. (Playpark is the store that besides  Karen Walker clothing and eyewear, offers great range of clothes by Karen’s favorite designers)
Tocca, under our beloved Emma Fletcher is surely going to right direction. Emma’s vision of hot air balloons and kaleidoscopes it’s not just marvelous, but very practical. Shoes were ideal, especially when they were in contrast with Emma's signature soft lace inserts.

More moments to remember

Christian Siriano ballerina’s moment and pointed Mary Janes adorned with bow. Suno’s shiny dresses, everything from Honor and Steven Alan, Yeohlee’s metallic romance, Edie’s moment at Marc Jacobs (even Alexa Chung between her DJing gigs found the time to share the memory of Edie with designer) and Misha Nonoo’s Cuba-inspired unpretentious ensembles.

fall to couture

To please never satisfied critics, brand’s clients and to maintain the vision of the brand that couture supports, all at the same time, it’s not an easy task at all. Considering that most of members of Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture are also creators of ready to wear, and some of the resort or capsule collections, it’s not an easy job to satisfy themselves, at the end. Dissatisfaction can be a very good drive, but everyone with creative job understands a complexness of creativity especially when deadlines and pressures are in the game. Week of Haute Couture that has always been fashion’s great carrousel of excitement brings also the great errand that your ride has to be the one that will create fireworks of thrill. The one that is familiar with creation of excite is Herr Karl, just like Mademoiselle Chanel in her time was. Lavish ensembles are usually spiced up with iconic models plus the model of the moment, which is currently Lindsey Wixson. Started with pretty seriousness, and all the functional ways of tweed, he spreads the word of immortality of classical Chanel. Unlike the others, he doesn’t have to search inspiration out there, when he has loads of it in his own garden. His remakes of classical Chanel pieces will never become boring. And he won’t ever be afraid to show them in modern way. Accessorized with 1940s snoods, scarves tied in pussy bow and sparkly hosiery, his clothes always have the story to tell. Different from they work they are doing for Valentino house last few seasons, were couture ideas of Chiuri and Piccoli that diminished previous age of innocence. Between aesthetic blue gowns they explored the history of Garavani’s work, but also went to time of brocade.  They filled our eyes also with lavish red and sparkly outfits that were extravagant in every detail, from velvet appliqués to fur inserts. Always interesting Alexis Mabille had a great affair with caftan and made all the shiny gowns for all magic workers and small creatures that unnoticeably surround us. With extravagance of couture, somehow you start to believe that there’s a thin line between beauty and ugliness. So is it hard to create feelings of excitement in little children of fashion again and again? Certainly it is. And with all the complexity of cultural and social changes in creating of a mode today, it takes more than just clothes to experience that fervent and obsessive side of fashion show.

stalking Alexa

Today in Paris the show will be over. Not exactly over, but it will take a short time-out until the September of this year. This season I realized that all those pushing in the front rows became kind of boring, and the fact that every year there are more and more great shows kind of annoying. I didn’t see all the shows and all the pretty or less pretty clothes. I’ll stick to my favorites, I firmly decided. So I stopped with robe-sighting in the time of London Fashion Week between Orla Kiely, Erdem and Peter Jensen. The rest of the shows and my favorites I will see when the buzz is over. Photos of all those sisters, stars, celebrity bloggers, hip editors that are popping all over on my social networks are making me tired. Except in the case of Alexa Chung. Photos of good old Alexa in the times of the Fashion Week are like visitors that are always welcome. Never boring. Do you love 'Alexa stalking'?

Petite Cardigans

My petite cardigan, you are great part-time lover for spring days and summer nights. Unlike the jacket,I don’t have to
carry you around, if sun is bit happier that day and I have to work for a pound. You always find your place in the space
of my bag. Bows, spots, pom poms, hearts, flowers, birds, cats, stars; you perky guys, you are all very welcome on my
cardigans. Also I wouldn’t refuse you little pearls if you find yours place under the curls. And you little lace, you are
really sometimes cardigan’s finest grace.

fashion, week, street and style

With one more New York Fashion Week, somehow comes to mind that we like stability. Stability in this case gives to us a beautiful and not so beautiful clothes and tons of celebrities, most of them looking phony dressed in clothes by designers in whose front row they are sitting in. Fashion is business, a business that is forth-largest industry globally and somehow that $500 billion worth thing brings joy and fun. And there was no lack of joy this year in New York. Besides everyone gossips about Alt-Roitfeld failed friendship, Terry Richardson is hugging Emanuelle. Julia Frakes had a problem with dishwasher 10 minutes before the Karen Walker show and fellow brygger has some serious jungle issues. Grace Coddington assiduously takes notes while her boss looks like she is bored to death, as usual. Flamboyant, cool and unique Miss Elson and the rest of the clique gathered around 3W (Wasson, Waris and Wang) are still the ones that have most fun.
And what is splendid is the fact that you can see all this even if you are miles away from New York. Those that are enabling this are tons of PP (party photographers) and SSP (street style photographers) and specialties of the week are certainly street style photos. But sometimes I question myself is it unfair or if not perverted that we are more into stalking the pretty people rather than the pretty clothes. On this issue I found the like-minded, Carine Roitfeld, who herself creates lot of buzz. She told Style.com’s Dirk Standen; “It’s true that, when you go to a show now, the photographers are more interested sometimes in the dress or the jacket you’re wearing than to photograph the show, and I think this is totally wrong. It’s an honor and you smile to the people. But is it normal? I think there is something a bit weird, that more people want to see these looks than want to see what John Galliano or Dolce & Gabbana did for the show.”
After all it’s not easy in the times when begins the end of cold winter trauma and you are more into thinking about short sleeves, to be a prophet. For that, I believe you have to have a little something in your head. Does today’s society appreciate that?

Model behavior; New York Fashion Week

With the beginning of fashion season in New York, our excitement to see how our favorite designers see the image of next summer is growing. With new trends, equally we are excited to see all the street style photos or maybe found us in street style section on our favorite fashion blog. Also if we didn’t see them in personal, we want to know around which models was buzz this season, so on the forums on fashion spot soon some member will count how many shows each model opened, closed or appeared in.
Fashion week is very stressful time of the year for a model. Running from show to show demands good flats, fittings comfortable clothes and cameras around demand that they are always looking like having fun. Not mentioning the after parties they have to attend. Maybe that casualness about style of models is probably a reason why backstage or street photos became our cultural ritual and exits after the show stalking places. And most of us would ignore the stress and the tension that these beautiful girls are going through and immediately trade places with them- just think of all beautiful clothes, parties and gift in clothes. And they get a paycheck. We would volunteer!

The nude dots

Aren’t you crazy about little dots on sheer fabric? Point d’esprit or dotted swiss as fabric is commonly used for veils, gloves, wedding dresses or curtains. Who could resist a romantic charm of point d’esprit hanging on the window, and who could guarantee the same decor won’t become detail on dress in some DIY inspiration (How romantic and sexy can be LBD with neckline or sleeves in point d’esprit tulle)
It looks like that sheer tights with dots and hearts that created such a fashionable buzz this season weren’t enough so some labels came with the garments entirely made of sheer fabric embellished with spots. For summer season Sonia Rykel adores idea of this nude dots as top with high waisted pants, Dolce Gabbana as a detail on the bohemian dress, Temperley London both as a detail and long dress.
New Zealand label Ruby included black and white sheer pants with dots in autumn winter collection. Topshop came with the body and maxi skirt, both totally see-through that tiny little dots are only thing that can protect you from amorous looks. That comes also for a sheer blouse found on etsy, while Blak top from Pixie Market is translucent because of white spots.
If you are bargain hunter born under a lucky star look for Valentino vintage items made of point d’esprit.

Fashion week season for main fashion capitals is ending with Paris. From what we saw on the runaway we easily can state that next fall will be everything but boring.
Except new clothes or faces on the catwalk, good old street remains a sacred soil for inspiration, so that's why I borrowed photos from some of our favorite street style snappers to create a photo diary. Enjoy our little style stalk!

street, style and snap

There are no doubts of influence that street style has on fashion today. At first fresh faces and creative ways in individual styling…was very inspiration available to very indoor clique of fashion insiders. With photographers and amateurs that set on capturing interesting moments out and about, we started to see amusing street stories daily without being on right places in major fashion capitals. Mr. Scott Schuman, better known as The Sartorialist back in the 2005 quickly became instant bible of style-at home for many individuals around the globe interested in fashion. Same did Garance Doré, prominent master not only for street snapshots, but for fashion illustration. So can be reality as Alice Fisher, from the Observer stated that those two are the best things that happen to style since Grace Coddington. Besides Garance and Sartoiralist, reading lists swiftly joined those like Altamiranyc (by Craig Arend) or Face Hunter Yvan Rodic, and even some girls around didn’t know how to buy shoes anymore without pre-glance at Tommy Ton's diaries on Jak & Jil. Thanks to flamboyant Street Peeper that as they state peeps cities all over the world we are able to see view on trends and fashion in San Francisco, Seoul or Sydney. Remarkable Maya from my latest obsession Turned Out except people with astonishing style, captures petite stories behind and together with collages she creates magic out of street styles. On the track from March of the last year is Citizen Couture, One more view of talented photograph lenses by enthusiast named Jason that catches style moments of the names we are always happy to see around (as are Carine, Daphne,Giovanna Bataglia, Miroslava Duma or clique of the models off the duty and some of our darling bloggers). The source of inspiration for the internet crowd keen on people style snaps, if it is not yet, will quickly become your bookmark.
