Orla Kiely Autumn 2013 Presentation

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about this obsession called Orla kiely? Why we love this label so much? Is it because of her vintage-inspired, recognizable prints that could look good in the industrial environment as in the pretty house with English garden. 

Is it because of the fact these frocks and other garments remind us on some of our favourite icons of past time? 

Is it because of Orla’s ability to adorn frocks with extremely cute details and still make successful, wearable ensembles for grown-up girls that are dreamers somewhere deep inside? 

Is it because her campaigns and presentations reminds us of stills from Wes Anderson’s movies who is also another master in creating modern retro atmosphere? 

If we going to talk about Wes Anderson connection with Orla Kiely, then upcoming Autumn 2013 collection is perfect example. Inspired by our dearest heroine, gypsy royal princess from 1970s , Margot Tenenbaum and Irish artist Breon O’Casey, Orla created another pretty collection with garments that could easily replace all the others in closets of many. Leith Clark who styles Orla Liely’s campaigns, presentations and lookbooks, adorned the ensembles with white stocking, t-bar heels and 1960s chignons with hair clips. That is another reason why these pretty dresses, coats, blouses, skirts and bags in clean line and tender colors on Orla’s models had pure, simple and ladylike appearance. 

With those Cardigans adorned with squirrels and another dear creatures, we could easily join Girl Scouts. But we have to work and play by the rules of serious world. That’s are why Orla’s dreamers looked so good the office set-up where she presented them as secretaries. Isn’t that everything we are? Serious, grown up girls, earning for living with teenage hearts of dreamers.

Summary of London Fashion Week AW 2013

Over the last few years we have seen a rise of London as a capital of fashion. Brilliant designers, enormous number of young talent and recent graduates from prestigious fashion schools really bring fireworks of excitement during London Fashion Week. It seems that, the London’s talented fashion kids really set up the new direction in design, whether they are trying to break the boundaries with the new shapes and the design or to connect contemporary with vast history of costume we have in our heritage. Without sounding pretentious, London can really state it has it’s own new wave. Creating summary of London Fashion Week using blogger layout is really hard, because you could really publish a book every season. No matter how you try, you will hardly find even one show that is not good. 

Just look at the AW 2013 show of the “youngest”, the Central Saint Martins MA Fashion graduates. They are all brilliant and have their own fresh design and fashion ideas. This year, I found designs of Jaimee McKenna most interesting. Jaimee, knitwear designer and ex freelancer for Mark Fast, played with pleats in attractive forms using monochrome blue dress as a base. Designer’s powerful blue felt like The Blue Epoch of Yves Klien walking on the catwalk. 

Simone Rocha is one more young designer that has proved the status she earned last season with her eponymous label. The fact that she is coming from the family of designer (John Rocha) she takes to try harder. Simone Rocha’s AW 2013 show entitled Respect Your Elders had the task to respect the cut and refined details of clothes. Her connection of unconnected things, also demonstrated she did that pretty well. Risky combinations of heavily embroidered lace, faux fur, pink, leopard pattern can be dangerous for many designers. But not for Simone. Like an experienced designer, she created balance between that teenage edgy vibe and ladylike outline and created the minimalistic outcome. Accessories as loafers in velvet, patent, leopard or glitter, quirky glasses and refined headdresses were topping on the Simone Rocha’s excellent cake. 

Last season, except Simone Rocha, I fell in love with Eudon Choi’s work. The AW 2013 collection from Eudon Choi, which was inspired by Russian women who kept their families together during the Russian revolution, turned me into a big fan. Designer that is initially trained as a menswear designer has an excellent sense for romantic but still powerful womenswear. This nostalgic trip to Russia, brought also amazing collaboration with milliner Piers Atkinson, that created amazing headwear; bloom-filled scarves. 

One more successful attempt of subtle romance was Giles show. It was enough creepy for Addams family and enough romantic for medieval princess. Dramatic huge locks in combination with long shiny and silky dresses with bishop sleeves, created beautiful catwalk story. The kings of creating stories on catwalk, Meadham Kirchhoff duo, showed once again there are two meanings of the word kitschy. Their kitschy is the other one, a good word. In their magical Helter Skelter they connected almost everything; Harlequins, Rococo, Mary Poppins, Goth princesses, Louis IV and Victorian maids. And what can we say except admire them and history we have.

New York Fashion Week Fall Winter 2013

In these days when photographs from fashion weeks are popping up everywhere, for fashion lovers (including me) who are not able to see the shows in personal this complete excitement can be little annoying. Images rarely give the full portrait of fashion show, the clothes and all the details that are crucial in many ways. Although many sites that cover fashion weeks provide images of details and live streaming, usually this is the case with major shows, which I reckon it’s pretty unfair for emerging designers. 

I almost gave up so many times from my examination of this jungle of images from fashion shows, but even If I am not obligated to see the show or I don’t have a gig for article or review fashion is an excitement that I cannot resist. 

I love to see a good fashion show. Good fashion show gives me butterflies. I love to catch a glimpse of good old passion that is substituted by profit quite often nowadays. These butterflies remind me why I chose career in fashion. They remind of my early teenager days when I used to run from the school after the ring of the bell to record on VHS tapes my favourite fashion shows. I used to get butterflies so often in those days, despite the fact that fashion trends of the 1990s were awfully ugly. 

From hundreds of shows that fashion designers presented during New York Fashion Week for fall 2013, Delpozo show was one of those that gave me butterflies. Josep Font, creative director of this Madrid-based label that is newcomer on New York Fashion Week used embellishments and architectural forms to create a modern Victorian era of our days. (Delpozo was founded in 1974 by famous Spanish fashion designer Jesus del Pozo.) 

Honor this year left me breathless. Giovanna Randall, the designer, created feminine silhouettes that were many times embellished with crystals and stylist Leith Clark wrapped up everything in perfect ensembles adorned with pointed flats and white hosiery. 

Above in the collage are the rest of my butterflies’ creators. Suno, Karen Walker, Creatures of Comfort, Band of Outsiders, Lauren Moffat, Tocca etc. reminded me once again why I love the fashion.

London Fashion Week Spring 2013

What happens in London, possible is just there, because there’s no order in this Big Bang explosion of creativity. Shows in London are like a huge patchwork made of thousand small pieces and they actually all look good together. This year in London, designers for spring of 2013 RTW presented us new game of trend; different colors or prints and different fabrics; all on one garment. And we enjoyed more than ever their visions of romantically science fiction with occasional travels to past. Also, PVC never looked this good. Here are misslikey’s favourite moments and collections.

Simone Rocha, ex Fashion East-er and daughter of John Rocha. If London was missing Peter Jensen (who was showcasing Spring 2013 at Copenhagen Fashion Week), it found a creatively cool and fashion forward substitute in Simone. Simone Rocha spring 2013 catwalk was consisted of everything hot right now; peplum, metallic, leather, lace, PVC-esque sheer, Codie Young, halo-like headdresses, beautiful shoes. And with front row to die for; Leith Clark, Alexa Chung and Laura Bailey.

Meadham Kirchhoff duo continues with exploring sweet ways of living of our favorite queen, Marie Antoinette. Sometimes messy-looking firework of color, every detail is carefully picked; from setting of the catwalk, the top bow on hat to nail embellishment (this time sparkly). This carrousel of colours and dresses that look like cupcakes, won’t be forgotten that soon, and garments will be base for lot of independently oriented editorials during next season.

Kinder Aggugini’s Sally goes fishing. If I need to make a favourite from the favourites, Kinder’s sweet summer of fisherman would be mine. Show was opened with sounds of Somewhere beyond the sea but the girl who went fishing experienced the different transforms of moods which found the great back up in music remixes (from Biggie’s Nasty to Coldplay). Kinder is familiar with the fact that pinafores, dungarees, skirts and shorts can be a great basic of the summer wardrobe; just these from KA weren’t basics but statement pieces with adorable prints of sea creatures. Girl that lives on sweet side of fashion, for promising summer now just needs to book a sweet cottage somewhere beside the river.

Flirts in red

Although I was immune for a long time on excitement caused by Lana Del Rey, I must admit that Summertime Sadness is constantly on repeat on my Ipod lately. Touched?! It would perhaps be wrong word, since I already have my own thematic choreography (Tacky, I know). Precisely, Miss Del Rey’s verse where she dramatically sings about the red dress and big hair inspired me on the lookout for perfect autumn red dresses.
From Italian brand Vivetta that has always been on the sweet side of fashion, are available two red beauties. Martedi dress with long sleeves and scalloped inserts and bustier Sofia in prom style, both equally feminine and elegant. Orla Kiely again pleased her fans with red beauty in her collection, which for Fall 2012 is strappy party dress made of very expensive and comfortable ottoman fabric. And we didn’t yet forget the short-sleeved beauty with bow on waist from Orla’s Resort collection. The well-fitted red dress is already a star per se, so I believe in minimalistic ways of embellishments. More than appropriate for sweet moments would be pair of Charlotte Olympia kitty flats. While for the times of decadence, I would pick Valentino ballerinas with studs from Fall Noir capsule collection. Very welcomed is big hair or chignon in 1960s style, of course. (Think of Pattie Boyd.) I would finish ensemble with small pieces of gold jewelry or contrast bag. (Think of Alexa Chung during Paris S/S 2012 Season in dress from Valentino Red with bows on the shoulders.) Now that we have the perfect red dress, all we need are dinner dates and lot of pretty invites. 

Call us little flirts, but that’s who we are.

Bookmarks for the Spring 2013 from New York Fashion Week

Orla Kiely Except at Orla is always happening a showcase of extremely pretty garments, once again she amused her loyal fans with another wonderful film from her factory of talent; director Maximilla Lukacs and Lula’s Leith Clark. Bardot-esque Hannah Holman as Darlin took Orla Kiely’s pretty designs to vague summer of 1960. (see film here)
Lauren Moffatt’s quirky dresses and swimsuits made in joyful stripes and polka dots, perfectly fitted in the environment; the tennis court. Inspiration behind; "a combination of the very classic look of lawn tennis in the '60s, and a colorful city pool." 
Rachel Antonoff had another great presentation. This time Rachel’s girls, dressed up in comfy frocks that only cool girls know how to wear, spent the day at picnic. Except clothes, she showed us once again why her collaboration with Bass shoes is just the right thing. 
Karen Walker, New Zealand queen of preppy, steps more than usual into the field of girly and it looked just right. So except Playpark in New Zealand, she created one in New York. (Playpark is the store that besides  Karen Walker clothing and eyewear, offers great range of clothes by Karen’s favorite designers) 
Tocca, under our beloved Emma Fletcher is surely going to right direction. Emma’s vision of hot air balloons and kaleidoscopes it’s not just marvelous, but very practical. Shoes were ideal, especially when they were in contrast with Emma's signature soft lace inserts. 

More moments to remember

Christian Siriano ballerina’s moment and pointed Mary Janes adorned with bow. Suno’s shiny dresses, everything from Honor and Steven Alan, Yeohlee’s metallic romance, Edie’s moment at Marc Jacobs (even Alexa Chung between her DJing gigs found the time to share the memory of Edie with designer) and Misha Nonoo’s Cuba-inspired unpretentious ensembles.

Jill Stuart; timeline

With New York fashion week that for two days will be behind us, and all the showcased clothed that will try to make our summer of 2013 wonderful, most of us are already living in the next year. Fashion is all about the future, since is all the time about the lust. To move away for a little from this tendency of living for the future times, we need sometimes to reflect on the past. So little timelines that I am going to post in the future times here, will serve us hopefully as useful reminders of what these loves of ours have been doing in past seasons. Maybe this will answer our queries of ability to create lust in us while keeping us as their fans. Jill Stuart, except few getaways to edge, is the designer that has been eminent source for our feminine ways of dressing up. For spring 2013, Jill continues with taking us on the path of a lace, which we quite like. Not only that she went once again on the known territory of white lace that is great summer friend, she explores the new ways of black. But black just couldn’t deal with the impressive good old white, because except for the typical and safe romance that white lace brings, Jill brought a strong vibe of confidence into her ensembles. Blouses with delicate nets and ruffle collars, still can offer a lot to grown up woman. Silky trench coat with four pockets is kind of a statement piece that just waits for some movie heroin to pick it up from a chair. With a breeze of Hollywood that Stuart brought to New York and all those lavish silk pieces that are indicating glamorous summer for next year, we are happy to set confidence on its right place; to our closet.
While remembering previous collections from Jill Stuart, I believe that brand has ability to create science of happiness while maintaining that dazzling desire in us. Always the same? No. Related? Yes! Too much to reveal and leave us without a lust for next season? No. That brings us to conclusion that middle is not boring. At all.

stalking Alexa

Today in Paris the show will be over. Not exactly over, but it will take a short time-out until the September of this year. This season I realized that all those pushing in the front rows became kind of boring, and the fact that every year there are more and more great shows kind of annoying. I didn’t see all the shows and all the pretty or less pretty clothes. I’ll stick to my favorites, I firmly decided. So I stopped with robe-sighting in the time of London Fashion Week between Orla Kiely, Erdem and Peter Jensen. The rest of the shows and my favorites I will see when the buzz is over. Photos of all those sisters, stars, celebrity bloggers, hip editors that are popping all over on my social networks are making me tired. Except in the case of Alexa Chung. Photos of good old Alexa in the times of the Fashion Week are like visitors that are always welcome. Never boring. Do you love 'Alexa stalking'?

London Fashion Week spring 2012

In world of clothes it’s hard to create something different. System that is teaching us to individuality fails when it comes to every aspect of creating. So this new century is not so much about discovery or innovation but more about how to transform old into new in sophisticated manner. We learned lot of times that dress is not just a pretty cloth that you wrap around yourself to cover your body so other people wouldn’t point fingers and laugh at you. Dress is like a song, painting or book, the accurate mode to articulate our state of mind.

In sea of everything mixed-up, I believe that the state of mind can stay serene without losing interesting vibe. That’ s the reason why I pointed out designers from above. For well-rounded completeness, you need more skills than to make something loud that will on the first catch your eye. Some designers presented on London Fashion Week showed that can be possible. Take Peter Jensen as example; his graphic print looks hundred times more sensual than someone’s Liberty print that’s not used fine. Jensen made the collection that’s full of mix in very lovely way. Broderie Anglaise dresses and animal print trousers in the same closet? Yes that’s possible when you have good style. With careful use of basic colors with few shades of blue and orange he made his point of what a summer should look like.

Christopher Kane, that during past seasons was doing his own voyage to the stars and nebulas landed. Not on the harsh ground, but to beautiful garden where everything is luminous and shines.For a lady that loves to read in garden and walk around, has ensured Erdem Moralioğlu with delicate gloves and hats made of lace. Mulberry collection between the bright equipment for rainy London summer and bags showed some starry embellishments and the sensual transparency of chiffon. The sheer maxi skirt and matching sweater in green shades? The score. Jonathan Saunders started with very bright prints, then broke the color with few spots and moved to faded colors and prints. Fabric with silky glance and look of vintage California postcard? Seems very possible. As for dresses made of metallic fabrics, that didn’t have such a good reputation over the years, those will find at last their place under the moon on summer night. Especially good metallic dresses were at Giles, so equally appealing were feminine silhouettes with cutouts and fringe dresses in flapper style. So who said that disco queen needs to look like a clown?

Paris fashion week fall 2011

Chloé bows

Hannah MacGibbon continues to follow her sense for design and style of beloved Chloé, but from time to time she tries to awake classic Chloé woman to experiment more with bit eccentric pieces. So this time she did that with snakeskin. So after the Sally bag it was about the time to add a little of dressy snake to the dress, even if moments that typical Chloé girl would love are casual leather coat in A cut, luxurious but elegant chiffon and all the pants, blouses and bows. This time even on shoes. Bravo Hannah!
Cacharel nude and eclectic blues
Cacharel super aesthetic sixties shape in nude, neutral tones matched perfectly with eclectic blue eye shadow on Cédric Charlier’s models. Super floral prints of Cacharel showed once again that what is Liberty to UK, Cacharel is to France.
Nina’s Lolita
Peter Copping had to cope with Theyskens heritage left at Ricci. I mean all the princess letters from Upper East Side? I believe it’s hard, but Peter has enough experience, talent and knowledge to fit in. Once again he proved that. In middle of dark tones, he breaks the monotony with super polished Lolita that adores suit and all the classy things in fragile colors. After that he brings back the serious romance with items like lavish velvet coat! Hopelessly romantic!
Dries Divine
When you see all those dresses, prints, textures, shoes, pants and glasses, you start to feel something towards Dries Van Noten himself. And I believe I am not the only one.
Givenchy details
Bejeweled flowers, violets, panthers, Bettie Page, 90s Versace inspired chains. Everything together! So you come to idea that is wrong to think that everyone has talent for everything. To make a wearable collection and to keep your artistic nature you have to have a talent. And Riccardo Tisci possesses enormous one. He makes me to pull the pencil skirt out of my closet and wear it all fall long.
Lovable Lanvin
Braided ponytails under oversized hats, quirky headdresses, extravagant dresses that bring the real picture of Paris fashion from the last century when fashion show was really something that was unrealistic, divine and glamorous beyond belief. I bet Jeanne-Marie Lanvin would be proud on Mr Elbaz.
Miu Miu and glittery
It would be nonsense not to mention the impact that Miuccia Prada has on today’s trends and many designers. That is confirmed not only by rise of sale but the fact the Miu Miu became one of the most copied brands among mass-market retailers. Sister label of Prada that is from its beginnings all about bright colors, prints, details, playful and girly character, for the last few seasons is increasing its audience. Does that mean that we become happier? Or we need that dose of happiness in rough times like these?
Valentino Virus
…And I am seriously affected by it. Valentino’s team is one of the best things that happened to fashion world lately. Valentino collections cause such a delight, that I am speechless when it comes to describing. Is it enough to say that I want to be BBBF(best but best friend) of Chiuri and Piccioli?
Véronique’s nerdy secretary
So in what should office girl invest for the next fall? Leather skirt, knitted tent dress, something in mint color, turtleneck sweater, tweed dress and good coat in creamy color tones. And yes she would look just charming but austere with sleek ponytail, graphic jewelry and glasses. Say thanks to Véronique Leroy. Not me.

....At beginning of fashion week
First aid. Must haves are pack of gum, bottle of water/juice, coffee and schedule. Band-aid if you wear heels. Sunglasses if you are timid. Notebook if you take notes. Mobile charger if you talk too much. Aspirin if you get bored easily.
....And après fashion week
At least two days for rest, something cozy and chic as Samantha Pleet jumpsuits, nice cup of tea, book, vitamin C. Something funny as Woody Allen and warm as Secret Garden. And something called couch.

London fashion week fall 2011; highlights

1. Oh Orla
Lovely tunic dresses, knitted cardigans, coats with buttons, new bags on chain; I want every single item from Orla Kiely’s fall presentation. In fact when I don't?
2. Alice Temperley starry starry night moment
Temperley London fall runaway was like a royal ballroom. Elegant silhouette, details, lace and silk showed the luxury of modern princess’s closet. Not to mention those white and black sheer dresses with shiny stars appliqués. Did you always want to be wrapped up in a stars?
3. Michael van der Ham shiny velvet
Designer showed complete luxury of velvet in bright colors and shiny fabric. So the wintertime according to designer will be warm but not dull.
4. Mary Katrantzou print moment
Colors, florals and prints so beautiful that for a moment it seems you are trapped in some other kaleidoscope world. We’ve never seen Faberge eggs yet on the runaway; And than came Mary!





5. Richard Nicoll art deco inspired shoes
Richard Nicoll showed the true beauty of aesthetic. Subtle colors, the perfect tone of mustard, lovely nudes, one adorable parka in nude and shoes to die for. And yes, the perfect combination of sheer fabrics and leather?
6. Mulberry grown-up schoolgirl
Bird print dress and blouse, maxi dress with collar lightly pleated, and light purple tunic dress. Did I mention the cyan green silk?

2. Daks nonchalance in classic
It’s the third time for British house Daks on London Fashion Week and designer Filippo Scuff showed what he and Daks know the best; classic, menswear items with feminine twist and nonchalant Brit chic.
3. A hat & a shoe moment at Margaret Howell
One more designer that is synonym for relaxed traditional clothing, this season showed what she does best.
4.Fringe moment at James Long (Fashion East)
He really knows knitwear. And rock.
5. Kinder Aggugini fragile silhouette
Kinder Aggugini dresses were feminine and very simple in basic colors like white and black paired with quirky hairstyle or few headdresses (designer worked at Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano). And who could resist to that floral parka?

Of all interpreters of Patti Smith and Just Kids this year on fashion weeks, I think Paul Smith’s Patti is most charming. Why? Cause she played with polka dots, blouses and great bags. Is it because of PS?

Model behavior; New York Fashion Week

With the beginning of fashion season in New York, our excitement to see how our favorite designers see the image of next summer is growing. With new trends, equally we are excited to see all the street style photos or maybe found us in street style section on our favorite fashion blog. Also if we didn’t see them in personal, we want to know around which models was buzz this season, so on the forums on fashion spot soon some member will count how many shows each model opened, closed or appeared in.
Fashion week is very stressful time of the year for a model. Running from show to show demands good flats, fittings comfortable clothes and cameras around demand that they are always looking like having fun. Not mentioning the after parties they have to attend. Maybe that casualness about style of models is probably a reason why backstage or street photos became our cultural ritual and exits after the show stalking places. And most of us would ignore the stress and the tension that these beautiful girls are going through and immediately trade places with them- just think of all beautiful clothes, parties and gift in clothes. And they get a paycheck. We would volunteer!

Summary of New York Fashion Week

In the sea of designers that showed /presented collections for fall on New York Fashion Week we certainly can say that lot of them had been in seek of more softer shape of female body unlike the past few years. Era of body conscious and fitness finished for the most of them so no matter we still cherish the Alaia heritage in our closets, ditto we can finally have a sigh of relief. So what are the best moments of nyfw according to misslikey:

1. Sweater over a dress
Dilemma of How to wear sweater over a dress is resolved. Sweater contrary to a first heavy glance can be a great soft love on the second sight. So bring out your spring floral, long or short dresses, draped skirts and put a sweater on it. Definitely you won't freeze like in the times when you were wearing them in edgy manners in the middle of the winter.

2. How to do the frizzy hair is the new How to fix the frizzy hair
Frizzy, curly hair become our friend this season. Free soft hair a la Grace Coddington this year proves that beauty imperfections can be our biggest perfections. Style is the key word.
3. The velvet underground
Velvet came back on the scene this year with the goth, 70s and 90s crave; While some been using velvet as a detail or embellished it with details many based entire collections on it so we saw a lot of velvet-in; Pants suits(Elise Overland, Fetherston, Karen Walker), long dresses, even the the minis in velvet (see Halston, Jeremy Scott, Sophie Theallet)

7. That less inspiration sometimes stands for more inspiration proved Shipley & Halmos and Marc Jacobs in both of his collections. While some been searching out for royal vagabonds, rock stars, Madras, Russian bohemians, Marc and duo S& H showed essentials of women's wardrobe. Marc Genius Jacobs spiced up everything with lovely romantic dresses.

8. Boho Romantic
Talking romantics this year gypsy Bohemian took the whole new role. I always can see some of the romance in vague lifestyle but few like Erin Fetherston, Sophie Theallet, Anna Sui and Alberta Ferretti for Philosophy showed us a true meaning of boho romantic.

9. Printed pants
From variety of graphic and floral prints came out printed pants, art that is new territory for most of us. But is definitely the field we will explore more in the future (see Proenza Schouler, Isaac Mizrahi, Devi Kroell, Acne)

10. Sportswear is part of refined attire
Sweatpants, treggings, hoodies, hooded capes, varsity jackets are style builders. On high heels they are fashion forward.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2010: Style Stalk

Just a little Style Stalk of fashion week in New York

Chloe Sevigny cut her blond waves into the wavy bob and looks amazing with the bold shoulder, Chloé haircut.
Little shorter, but similar haircut has also Julia Frakes of bunny bisous & Paper Magazine that peeps on fashion shows around the town with her charming round eyeglasses.
Round eyeglasses are perfect fit on artist Aurel Schmidt, another chic New Yorker that's about to become on of the IT girls about the town.

New York Fashion Week fall 2010 part II- Are we becoming vagabonds?

New York Fashion week continues in big buzz; every minute there is new #nyfw tweet on your home page containing who came, who left, who sitting in a front row. We don't care much here for vanity and front rows but more of enjoying the catwalk.
Talking runaway; girl is on the road again. Obvious 1960s and 1970s vibe proves that Nico, Mariane Faitfull, Anita Pallenberg & co are never forgotten.( on 1990s are reminiscing Wang and his friend Joseph Altuzarra)
Long dresses this year are stars; Adam is about long skirt and oversized sweater, Peter Som put up green tulle, Philosophy put it in a military theme, Erin Fetherston for the night sleek, Altuzzara has a huge cape/train dress in red -velvet. Well velvet wasn't just popular in Altuzzara, but in Alexander Wang, Betsey, Elise Overland, Erin Fetherston, Karen Walker, United Bamboo and Rachel Roy shows. Believe it or not, we will be what's left from hippies and wear pants suit made of velvet next year. Except pantsuit that are velvet there is a quite of line of those pants I call sweat pants meet trousers (Araks, Luca Luca), or with inserted colored detail on the side (Ohne Titel, Prabal Gurung). The best tailored pants are undoubtedly those from Thakoon.
Erin Fetherston inspired by Chelsea girl Nico, made a wonderful complete collection showing us the bright side of Nico. Karen Walker, which continues in her cognizable tone of relax, loose clothing unlike last year when with tweed now is playing with some other materials. And Rebecca Taylor, I mean Rebecca Taylor even with keeping it short evoked Paris meets New York in seventies moments. Bows on the blue shoes- how terrible chic on the pants and blouse? And Peter Som gave us real fiesta of luxury fabrics and flamboyant prints with seventies vibe (models had black lipstick)
Another charming collection is from Peter Jensen which recalls on the childhood Sundays when mum is suppose to fix you up, shine up your shoes, lace them up and prepare you for the life. Add to that croco bag and in one moment you are teacher and in another charming Lolita. And don't forget to wear visible socks. Which certain have special appeal this year on fashion week. If not socks (on the heels or men shoes) there are "trouser leg" shoes (boots)
In line with ladylike, romanticism and Bohemian, coats are capes often in beige. Fur coats are huge and not too long while shearling jacket is included still in few collections.
And what else is new?
Young label Suno's (at O.C) eclectic prints and Betsey performance. Betsey show is always show in true meaning of the word so she brought us boudoir, miss Ozbourne, vagabonds and tribute to Alexander McQueen. Betsy can evoke in us hidden wish of leaving home and start living in fun fairs. If only Bob Dylan is there I would first put my name on the list.
Apparently I am full of kudos for New York, collections are much more complete and transparent, styling and details are great. Even Victoria Beckham is a proper tailor, but please couldn't she find any less skinnier models in the town?!

New York Fashion Week Part I

Seems that designers on the beginning of the New York Fashion Week, been taught with coldness of this winter, are very preparing us for the Ice age next year. Maybe warm is new nude. Sweater dressing is very popular, which certainly puts a superb on Dries Van Noten and fuzzy sweaters. Inspired or not Cythia Steffe had fuzzy zebra skirt which could easily become very perfect item for the next season editorials. Same idea led Cushmnie et Ochs and Erin Wasson to play with fuzzy in white.
Did Edgy for the next season become sophisticated goth or we have to wait for sequent of NYFW to make the conclusions (Wang is broadcasting on Times Square). Yigal Azrouël was very loyal to his vision keeping urban touch even if are models wrapped in shawls or capes(BCBG Max Azria also joined that vision this year).
In this beginning of fashion week love for drapery is highly growing. Especially in mini style where skirts become draped and top body-con ( on Vena Cava, Costello Tagliapietra, Doo.Ri and Michael Angel). According to few, skirt will indeed have a big role next season; short pleated with zazou charm like from Cynthia Steffe matched on over-the-knee socks - ruffled in two tones from Generra - lady-like pleated velvet from Julian Louie or totally Bohemian with 70s glance from Richard Chai and Rachel Comney. In the same way are announced the jumpsuits; Colored in rock manner, embellished on the sleeves on Charlotte Ronson, slinky on Acne, in print on Cythia Rowley or goth on Wayne.
