Sweet details are something that is not usually familiar with the Gothic mood. Since we like unusual, we love to add a little of sweet and simple to our dark moods. Therefore contrast collar (Peter Pan, circle, ruffled or the narrow one) will turn us into Gothic princesses with the help of proper black dress. And simple neckline embellishment is always a good choice for sweet little witches that are so cool these days. Inspiration: take a look at eternal inspiration, mademoiselle Wednesday Addams (illustrated here by adnamaamanda on deviantart) or absolutely adorable The Little Witch of Greenwich on The Ones To Watch, photographed and directed by Hana Knizova and styled by Lucia Hajnikova. Now that leaves will soon begin to fall, in the upcoming days when our nudity will be covered with clothes, we are going to replace our canvas totes with leather satchels, light shoes with those made of heavier material and all those tiny high-waisted shorts with trousers. This transition from our ice-cream-looking clothes to those serious autumnal pieces can be horrible and frustrating sometimes. 

Girls that wear dresses eventually have to put on the trousers from time to time, but just for a while we are going to put all those plaid and denim trousers in delay. The reason for that is this check dress in popular Angel cut coming from lovely The Whitepepper, which is perfect for beginning of our school days. Wearing this preppy check-patterned fabric we will be taken seriously in a cool way, while smock shape and purple checks will work for our charm and loveliness.
At the end, after our serious hours, we all end up on Francoise Hardy and sweet delights.

Wayward Daughter is known for handmade pretty garments that won the hearts of many with its simplicity and loveliness. The second collection of this talented blogger could easily become the center of wardrobe for every girl out there who loves refined clothing with girly appeal. Frocks and pinafores with simple cuts and delicate prints seem to be so romantic but at the same time are very ascetic. Same is with Daisy and Ruby blouses. 

It’s really hard to make a favourite when every item is impeccable, but I reckon white Hildred dress with navy spots would fit perfect into my idea of upcoming days wrapped in soft sunshine. Leather satchel, cute pair of flats and life would be La vie en rose.

Although I was immune for a long time on excitement caused by Lana Del Rey, I must admit that Summertime Sadness is constantly on repeat on my Ipod lately. Touched?! It would perhaps be wrong word, since I already have my own thematic choreography (Tacky, I know). Precisely, Miss Del Rey’s verse where she dramatically sings about the red dress and big hair inspired me on the lookout for perfect autumn red dresses.
From Italian brand Vivetta that has always been on the sweet side of fashion, are available two red beauties. Martedi dress with long sleeves and scalloped inserts and bustier Sofia in prom style, both equally feminine and elegant. Orla Kiely again pleased her fans with red beauty in her collection, which for Fall 2012 is strappy party dress made of very expensive and comfortable ottoman fabric. And we didn’t yet forget the short-sleeved beauty with bow on waist from Orla’s Resort collection. The well-fitted red dress is already a star per se, so I believe in minimalistic ways of embellishments. More than appropriate for sweet moments would be pair of Charlotte Olympia kitty flats. While for the times of decadence, I would pick Valentino ballerinas with studs from Fall Noir capsule collection. Very welcomed is big hair or chignon in 1960s style, of course. (Think of Pattie Boyd.) I would finish ensemble with small pieces of gold jewelry or contrast bag. (Think of Alexa Chung during Paris S/S 2012 Season in dress from Valentino Red with bows on the shoulders.) Now that we have the perfect red dress, all we need are dinner dates and lot of pretty invites. 

Call us little flirts, but that’s who we are.

Oh my dears do you catch yourself counting the days till holidays, then you realize they are already there. As parties knock on the door and scents of the Christmas start to spread, we wonder what to wear. This year I am not completely giving up of red so I’ll have in backup little red dress with the bows I made, but I would love to mingle around on tiptoes in wonders made of tulle. Even if Chanel and Valentino are my first thoughts when I think of tulle in its best, it’s not impossible to be a princess with few pennies in a hand. Oh tulle tulle, girl can ramble around so long to find you in a vintage store hidden somewhere between floral and ikat. And when she is in online hunt it’s not easy to distinguish a perfect you between the tons of costumes and proms, but nothing is too hard when you imagine yourself in lavish tulle with graceful chignon on your head. Then you are princess even if your kingdom is based only in a Fantasy Land.

Dropped waistline, loose tank cut and the scent of flapper vibe mixed with librarian chic. And name such as popcorn.
Rachel Comey writes poetry of fashion, and not just with this specific popcorn dress. Since she began with designing a womenswear line, she became a favorite designer for many girls that effortlessly march on the streets dressed chic, but actually they don’t care. Comey’s label is not just another hip line, but it gives a true meaning to the word. Little of quirky, little of print, a lot of simplicity and bit of rock ’n’ roll is what makes clothes made by Rachel Comey so special. With the sexy but comfort pieces she makes a perfect uniform for cool, always in run girls.
Over the years infamous popcorn dress has been through some changes and reinventions and despite summery popcorn in a girly print or nude is beyond charming, so is the luxurious popcorn made of velvet. However, the velvet popcorn, in nude or with polka dots is not a dress you will wear just to rock concert once and store it into your closet. Oh no. You will wash it after the rock concert and wear it next day to library. So you can be groupie by night, college kid by the day.

Dear tunic dress,

In the beginning of autumn when runaway queens and kings nonchalant saw hipsters with hidden legs instead of hipsters in nude legs, both retailers and me were in panic. Retailers because they needed extra fabric and me because I thought there won’t be minis to buy! But luckily that didn’t happen. Meanwhile, dear tunic dress you became popular unlike the last years when you were available only from Orla, Marc or Milly. That makes me happy somehow. Because I like to show some leg. In a nonchalant manner. That’s why you are always my first choice.
So dear tunic dress I love to buy you either embellished or not. If you are embellished you are ready to wear. When you are made of chiffon and decorated with details as bejeweled neckline, bows, peter pan or petal collars you make me look like I will dance with balloons in the sky. But mostly I love you when you are simple, made of cotton. When you are like that I wear you over blouses with interesting or decorated neckline. Also you are perfect for detachable details as bows or crochet and organza collars. So dear tunic of mine, sometimes I love you in baby doll style but prefer you in trapeze cut. Sometimes I love to wear you with heels but mostly I wear you on ballet flats and black tights. Oh, and did I mention I love when you have long sleeves?

Summer dress crush

Buttons sometimes completely can change the appearance of the plainest dress. In the summer, nice bright buttons give the bubbly charm to pastel garments as sundresses, tops or jumpers. The little gold-tone metal buttons, placed in the middle from neckline to hemline, even if just embellishment, on slim cut dresses can make miracles for the shape of the body.
Bit tight white dresses in stiff cotton or denim with these kinds of buttons have seaside chic and are wearable in many occasions. Similar dress in striped cotton has Sophomore in their latest collection. This bustier dress with the straps is now on sale at Opening Ceremony ($ 217.00).
Hip and playful button up dresses from Rachel Comey's spring summer 2010 collection, are inspired by Annie Clark of indie rock band St. Vincent. Annie performed in orange dress at the show and same dress later wore Whitney Port at Coachella. Sale doesn’t make choice easier because of three different versions of this ruched dress with sweetheart neckline.
Orange one is available at Bloomingdale’s for $264.00,silk one with blue print at Gargyle $275.00, and the one in two tone print at Creatures of Comfort for $195.00.

Back to the 60s with Marianne Faithfull

One moment we are flirting with 80s and 90s, next with 70s. Are we born in wrong era? Of so many eras that were alternating this year, the swinging sixties are probably most feminine and romantic. Lot of designers in recent resort collections were channeling 60s, of which Marc Jacobs collection was one of the Please, Can I have it all kind of collection. And truly 60s are unfailing era. Age of icons; Biba, Mary Quant, Rudi Gernreich, Twiggy, Warhol, Edie, Brigitte, Jane Birkin, Mia Farrow, Ana Karina, Francoise Hardy, Audrey, Bob Dylan, just to mention a few. List is just too long for recital but it would be just sin not to mention Beatles, The Rolling Stones and their girls. Gosh how many inspiration they left us. That's why I remembered of one of my favorite, Marianne Faithfull and her style during the sixties.

For Marianne-esque charm I choose dresses at fantastic Orla Kiely, famous for her cognizable prints. Emerald green dress with cutout at neck is totally Marianne, same as the printed one with petal neckline.
Shoes are Clerance Le Flaca suede sandals from Coclico, Vintage 20s T strap sandals, Coclico suede sandals in royal blue with charming name-Odalisk Sapphire and Chie Mihara sandals in dark green and brown.

Trendspotting; Bow-Back

There is a thing about trends- If is it trend before you put an eye on, becomes surround system, if it isn't you become a craftsman.
I remember the time when I was obsessed with the bows on the back. In that period I probably collected the most of satin ribbons I have (now they are multitask shoe straps)
Lately, bow-back has been introduced on Yves Saint Laurent Spring 09 zipped dress and it had three bows on the back. This year Topshop did the two bows on the back version and I already seized myself one nude, Lycra tee/dress. Motel last year had one bow on their always charming vintage look-alike prints. For spring '10 Motel made three bows on the back and entitled it Bowtastic. Isn't that just fantastic name for spring key item?

Trendspotting; Long pleated skirt

Pleated items for decades, before modern designers started to create wonders out of them were usually volume supporters. That’s why in those Flemish gowns usually the sections were pleated or on some marvelous gown pleats had role on the back, on the cloak or train.
On the other side of the volume crave, at the beginning of the century Spanish designer Mariano Fortuny started using pleated silk to create his famous tea gowns inspired with tapestries from East and ancient Greek tunics (with Isidora Duncan, Mrs Conde Nast as fans) Apart from sleek couture visions of freedom of female body with ancient origins, reserved for special socialites, in different fashion eras was immanent hunt for volume or structure, which often apart from petticoats implied pleats. At the beginning of 50s Dior used pleats to create fullness of New Look, and after all there was American-styled all-around pleated skirt, which was certain symbol for years. Usage of pleated finish on the fabrics increased in 70s with using of synthetic fibers that allowed fabrics to stay pleated after laundry process. Somewhere between the decades, trends, and different époques was shaped maxi fine pleated dress, plisse in various types, with the view to provide elongated figure. Chloe designer Hannah McGibbon with the last fall collection proved that the fall goddess with ancient spirit exists and with the slightly dropped hemline, chiffon and satin details is equally fragile in nude as in earth colors.

When recently spotted in my back-up storage four vintage floor-length pleated skirts, I was quite surprised and without an answer or excuse for not wearing them. I assume it was my idea back in the days of making bustier dresses out of them and the failure of the same when came issue of the silhouette. It is true that when modifying clothes, in manner top is a skirt-dress is a top- tee is a dress, becomes standard we certainly forget about wearing some items in the way they are suppose to be; pleated skirt as a skirt not as dress. Fine pleats are except they influence clothing with ancient history (My tendency for collecting Grecian inspired robe probably is related to my Mediterranean heritage) used in the form of drapery they make something romantic to woman body with charm of powerful femininity. Every muffle in fabric that easy adjust the body even if you are 5-year-old girl playing with curtains gives kind of feeling of female dignity. And every muffle in this kind of item for 80s obsessed society, certainly gives a feeling of body deliverance. Just try it.

Mini lace dress

It's not a cliché to connect it with innocent aggression, says my arty friend about lace dresses. There is challenge among designers every time those lingerie items come beneath our clothes, in tend to turn out them to be sophisticated and powerful, they are endeavoring to keep secrecy and glance of sexuality in items. No doubt there is something exceptional about those fabrics like sheer or lace and yes, enough prove of their exception is their usage that is prevailing on runaways, either as on weddings and funerals. While Black Lace symbolizes sexuality and the death, White lace is pure innocence, fragility, and love. Every time I plunge into Great Expectations I almost can clearly imagine Miss Havisham, marvelous in her tragedy wearing a white dress with the lace gloves in her white room.

So when choosing lace dress, one need to pay attention on quality and its softness, especially if it’s all made of lace fabric. Made by hand, of silk or cotton mostly, this garment can be very artwork though machine techniques today have almost the same outcome. Critically ignore prom cuts!
With closeness of fall it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get one black lace dress that you can be able to wear with high heels in glamour manner of Sunset Boulevard same as with tough motorist boots in the evenings when you feel edgy. And can it be something more sensual, romantic and melancholic for late summer days and evenings as white dress in lane or cotton with cutwork or made of knotted lace.
